Here comes March! They say April showers bring May flowers, but what does California snow in March bring?? It brings cold, so much cold! But that is ok, I will take cold as long as the rain keeps falling. This part of the year goes quick! After Spring Break, it starts to feel like the end of the year. Just keep you arms inside the ride at all times and hang on! Here we go!

Thursday Dress Up Day: This Thursday is Storybook Character Dress Up Day! Get creative and encourage your child's love of reading. Thursday is Read Across America Day and we are celebrating in style!

This is a very important time of year. It may be March, but it is time to start getting ready for the upcoming school year. Crazy, I know! One of the most important things we do now is start recruiting new members for our PTC. We have the most amazing PTC that has organized may fun events. Next year, there will be quite a bit of turnover and we need your help. Above are the open positions. I will also attach this form to the email. Please fill it out and turn it in to your child's teacher or the office.

Stoneridge Parents -

The Stoneridge PTC will be accepting applications for our Board for the 2023-2024 school year. This is a great way to get involved with the school and meet new people! The PTC coordinates all of the fun activities we do throughout the year here at Stoneridge as well as provides additional support for our amazing staff! This year we have

several Board Members who are graduating out of Stoneridge and so this means there are several open positions available.   Below you will find all of the open positions with a brief description and decide which one you’d be interested in doing. Feel free to reach out to me or any participating PTC representative with any questions that you may have. 

 

Applications are due by April 1, 2023. You can either drop them off at the office or have your child give it to their teacher. We will vote on new Board Members at our PTC meeting on April 20th, which will allow for a full month of transition with our outgoing Board before this school year wraps up. We encourage you to really consider joining our PTC and we'd love to have you on board!

Spring Book Fair: The Book Fair is coming!! We are using a different vendor for this book fair and are very excited about what it has to offer. There will be lots of great books and many low prices. The dates are March 6-10. Students will be able to buy books during Teacher's classroom designated time slot and one hour after school except for Friday, 3/10. The Book Fair will not be open during lunch. will need some extra hands on deck to be open for the kids.

Science Docents Needed: Do you have an interest in science? Do you like working with kids? We are lucky to be the only school in the district with Science Docents and need a volunteer to keep in going!  We need another science docent for the upcoming school year. Ideally, this person will start working with our science docents now to get oriented. Please email me if you are interested.

Happy Sunday! The image above is our Timberwolf Chant. We say this together at our assemblies and flag salutes. If you were at the Sweetheart Dance, the students did it on the stage. (And my heart may have exploded with pride.) The reason we have a chant is so that all of the students memorize our expectations and can repeat them. As a school, we teach these expectations in each area on campus. We have also been adding signs on campus and in front of school as reminders. I am sharing so you know the why behind some of the things we do. It is also great information for you to have and reinforce at home.

Attendance Reminder:

Attendance is vital for every child every day as lifelong habits are established in the early school years and contribute to student success throughout their school career and beyond. The best way to keep up with your student's curriculum pacing is to ensure they are in class daily and engaging with peers and their teachers.

 

When students are absent, they miss participating in discovery, student discourse, and the friendships made inside and outside the classroom through play and collaborative learning. Knowledge and understanding are more than being able to complete a worksheet; it is connecting new knowledge with concepts known previously to construct new meaning and sharing explanations of what is learned. Our teachers want to celebrate students and peers attending school in person and gaining knowledge.

Please be reminded that our upcoming vacation days for the remainder of the year are the following:

• Monday, March 13, 2023 - Teacher Learning Day - No school for students

• Monday, April 3 - Tuesday, April 11, 2023 - Spring Break - (return on April 12, 2023)

• Monday, May 29, 2023 - Non-School Day/Holiday

• Tuesday, June 6, 2023 - Last Day of School (Summer Break: June 7, 2023 - August 9, 2023)

Please try and schedule appointments on non-school days and after school. If your child will be absent for an extended period, please visit our district website or contact the school's front office to set up a short-term independent study contract. Skate Night: One of the favorite events in the Brooks house!! Come and have some fun this Wednesday from 5:30-7:30pm. A flier with information came home on Friday. This time, we are going to do it a little different and you can buy pizza by the slice at the event. 

Carnival Planning Meeting: Thursday, 2/23, at 2:30pm. Please come and see how you can help make the Carnival the event of the year. More hands make less work, so come and check it out. 

Coffee with the Principal: This Friday, 2/24, at 8am. Come and chat with Mrs. Brooks and enjoy some coffee this Friday morning.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Have fun today, well, as much as you can without the 49ers. The good news is, the kids have a bonus day off tomorrow. Hopefully, you will be able to relax tomorrow as well.

Thank you to all of you who came to our Sweetheart Dance! It was so fun. The kids were so excited to dress fancy and hang with their friends. It was awesome! 

If you did not get a ticket, we are sorry. We did not know we had a Taylor Swift type of event on our hands! For future events, remember to make your purchase right away as long as Ticketmaster does not crash. 

Parent Info Night: We are having a Parent Info Night this Wednesday, 2/15, at 6pm, in the library. In addition to calming the fears of new kindergarten parents, the goal of the evening is to share all of the fun things your children will do in future grades at Stoneridge.  For example, we want the 2nd grade parents to get excited about what is to come in 3rd through 5th grade. Darren Brown will also be there to talk about Eich Middle School. We want you to know what is to come at Stoneridge and what to expect in middle school. It will be an informative evening. 

PTC Meeting this Thursday! We would love to see you at our PTC meeting this Thursday at 2:30pm. We will start planning for the Carnival soon, so come and learn how you can help. We have had some amazing events this year and the Carnival is one of the biggest! We look forward to seeing you.

Happy Sunday and Happy February💗 I had a nostalgic weekend. I got to watch my sister play water polo with her Oakland masters team at a UC Davis tournament. It was extra fun because she was playing against many college club water polo teams including the Davis team she played for. Their team strongly beat everyone they played and she remembers getting beat by the masters teams at that same tournament years ago. It was so fun to be back at UC Davis, drive around the town and eat lunch at Dos. (IYKYK) Both my sister and I went to Davis, so it was special to be there together. Have you visited your college town lately? 

This weekend also marks the last weekend before the Brooks' hit their crazy sports season which goes from now until December! Here we go!!

Hello Families! Tomorrow is the 100th day of school. Teachers and staff will be dress up and we encourage kids to do the same. They can wear what they think someone who is 100 years old would wear or maybe 100 things on their shirt. Get creative and have fun! Being the 100th day of school means that we are over half way through the year. Wow! That seems crazy. 

Timberwolf TV: I feel so bad for missing Friday's Timberwolf TV episode. I was out of town and had every intention of making a video, but you know what they say about life: It happens. We will see you on Friday!

Important Reminder: Please do not park in the preschool parking spots. We have those spots reserved so they can park and get their child out. If there are not spots open, it makes it very tough for them and they may park in our drop off line. Thank you for understanding.

Author Jesse Bennett's Books for Sale

Stoneridge mom and local author Jesse Bennett will be visiting Stoneridge, Thursday, February 9th to help us celebrate I LOVE READING MONTH!  Jesse will be reading her newest book Ripple and will be offering all 4 of her books for sale on our Stoneridge Shop.  Jesse will be donating 50% of all proceeds from books purchased through our Stoneridge Shop back to our PTC! All 4 of the books are for sale on amazon as well. Jesse is happy to sign any outside books ordered if they are brought to Stoneridge.  Kindness & mindfulness is the theme of all 4 of the books!

Purchase books before 2/9 and Jesse will have them signed and they'll be delivered to student's to take home!

Happy Sunday! How wonderful was it to see the sun this weekend? It seems like it has been awhile! Our family was lucky enough to go to San Francisco for a lacrosse tournament this weekend. We used to go to the city all the time when we lived closer, but it has been a long time. This trip was a great reminder that there are so many amazing places close to us, and we should take advantage. Our family gets wrapped up in the business of life and doesn't do this enough. Joelle was having so much fun asking questions and taking it all in. The Brooks will be adding more experiences to our plans in 2023! What does your family have planned?

Happy Sunday! This is an appreciation post. An appreciation to Mother Nature as she was kind enough to allow us outdoors for almost every recess last week. We were only indoors for only one recess all week and it was Friday's lunch. Being able to have the kids play outside is best for everyone! Trust me😀 We had a great week back!
