January 26 #wearestoneridge

As we approach February, registration is well underway and we are excited for our 4th annual parent information night (January 29th from 6-7 PM) for newly registered and prospective families. As I have been planning this evening, it's been a great opportunity to reflect on our school and all of the things that make our school unique. When I hear from interested families, they often ask what special programs we offer, they are interested in after school enrichment opportunities, our curriculum, and even how parents can be involved. I always love to share about our school and our community and what makes us uniquely Stoneridge. We know parents have many choices with regards to educating students and we work hard to create a school environment and community where students, families,  teachers, and staff are inspired and thrive!

If you take a look at our social media feeds, (the pictures in the above slide show are just from this past week!) you will find that daily, teachers, staff, and families are sharing out all kinds of amazing things happening at our school and at home! Our Twitter feed is filled with pictures of happy students learning and engaged in art, PE, STEM, digital writing, and more. Our house system builds community school-wide and provides kids of all grades the opportunity to connect and lead in a positive way. And in each and every classroom, every day, you will find teachers differentiating instruction to meet the needs of every student in their class, whether that means additional support in a small group, or providing enrichment and extension to students with a strong grasp of academic skills in their grade level. We want every child to grow both academically and socially every day!

To that end, being a STEAM school, we work hard to provide every child with an enriching academic experience filled with scientific exploration, technology integrated throughout the day, engineering for all, art, and math as we prepare kids to be ready for a future that doesn't exist yet. And we emphasize positivity, wellness, and citizenship to help our students to be ready to lead and change the world. Rigorous, challenging, and academics wrapped up in creativity combined with an equal focus on health and happiness for our students and staff are two things we believe makes Stoneridge stand out in a crowd. We are so proud of what we do, and every day WE are a community of learners working hard to get even better at what we do. Thank you for sharing your students with us! We are and we LOVE Stoneridge!

Have a wonderful week!

We are so excited to share that Stoneridge will be participating this year in Global School Play Day! Read all about Global School Play Day here: http://www.globalschoolplayday.com/

February 4, 2015, was the first annual Global School Play Day for students in schools around the world. In year one, over 65,000 students participated! Over 177,000 students took part in 2016. In 2017, over 283,000 kids celebrated Global School Play Day. Can we reach 500,000 students in 2018?

Reminder:
CALL FOR TOYS Our students can bring anything they wish to play with to school on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. The only restrictions: they must bring toys and these toys may NOT require batteries or electricity. No devices. Kids may need some ideas, since today's kids rarely play and often own very few toys: board games, dolls, Legos, blocks, trucks, cars, racetracks, playing cards, empty cardboard boxes, markers, jigsaw puzzles, blankets (for forts), social games (charades, Pictionary, etc.) The only exception on the electronics rule would be a board game that has an electronic timer, an electronics play kit, or similar. How about taking your students out in the dirt or snow to dig, explore and get messy? You may want to show your kids photos of GSPD17 to open their eyes to unfamiliar types of unstructured play.

Want to get involved?
We will also have activities for outside play throughout the day and we would love for you to join us in play! We will definitely need volunteers to help with setting up and clean up as well. Do you have juggling scarves? Legos? Board games? Agility ladders? Jacks? We would love to borrow items like these for our outside play stations that day. Please complete the google form below if you would like to help out. Thank you! We are so excited about this day!

Girls On The Run Signups are next week!

REMINDER: Registration for Girls on the Run opens in a week. Don’t forget to register. The program filled beyond capacity last year!

Girls on the Run will be starting up in February 2018. For those that don’t know about the program, this will be the 5th year at Stoneridge!

Girls on the Run is our program for girls in 3rd-5th grade that encourages girls to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others. And you do not need to be a runner to participate! Each season, girls gain a better understanding of who they are and what's important to them, the value of teamwork and healthy relationships and how they can have a positive impact on the world. Girls also make a meaningful contribution to their community through a team-organized Community Impact Project. Physical activity is woven into the program to inspire an appreciation for fitness and healthy habits and teach life skills including treating others with care, practicing gratitude and managing emotions. Each season culminates with a Girls on the Run 5K event. This celebratory, non-competitive event provides girls with a sense of accomplishment and instills the value of goal setting at a young age.

The 10-week season runs from February 12 through May 12. Our current program fee is $165 per girl. This includes:

▪ 10 weeks/20 lessons led by trained coaches (all coaching teams are background checked and have CPR/First Aid certification)

▪ A healthy snack at each practice

▪ All curriculum materials

▪ Girls on the Run Program t-shirts

▪ Girls on the Run water bottle

▪ Registration for Girls on the Run 5K event

▪ Girls on the Run 5K medal

Scholarships are available. For more information, please check out this great blog post on the GOTR side with accompanying video: https://www.gotrsac.org/News/post/new-study-demonstrates-that-girls-on-the-run-transforms-young-girls-lives

January 14th #skatenight #spiritwear #casinonight #GSPD

Dear Stoneridge Families,
As we remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this weekend, I am reminded by his quote in the image above of the important work we do together as a school community... helping our students grow into positive, happy, intelligent, and mindful adults who are prepared both socially and academically to lead our world into the future. To that end, you'll notice that we work hard to fill our student's days with learning and also a focus on wellness, such as our new Wellness Wednesdays, and our upcoming Global School Play Day on February 7th. Happiness and health are truly important goals for all of us, and we hope you feel our focus on both academic content and the content of our character as equally important school initiatives. Enjoy your weekend with your family! We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Tuesday January 16th.

Spirit wear orders open now! Place your order now through January 21st.

We have online orders only at www.stoneridgeshop.com. Orders will be delivered the week of February 5th.

Happy New Year! #reading #globalschoolplayday #authorvisit

Greetings Stoneridge Families!
Only two more sleeps until our students return to school on Tuesday January 9th! We are SO excited to see everyone! If you are joining Stoneridge as a new family as we kick off 2018, welcome! We are looking forward to a fabulous 2018.

As we head into the second half of the year, I'd like to share with you some exciting upcoming events and opportunities! First, we will be opening signups for our January-March enrichment signups Monday January 8th at 7 PM. We are thrilled to be offering Spanish for the remainder of the year, as well as a full selection of enrichment classes including some new teacher led classes! The descriptions for all were previously emailed to you, but in case you need the information again, the document is linked below.

  • Wellness Wednesdays start this week! On Wednesdays we encourage students and staff to wear fitness gear so we can be active together and I'll also be sharing wellness tips with our school community. We are looking forward to a happy and healthy 2018!

Finally, over the break I was reminded how much I love to read and had fun spending time getting lost in a variety of books! We hope your family loves to read, too! With this in mind, we've created a new space for our Stoneridge community to share what we're reading! In this group, we can share what we are currently reading, what we plan to read next, and  toshare "shelfies"-- these are pictures of you or your student with a book, or "bookstacks" in case you have a lot of books on your to-be -read list! We are hoping that this group will become another place we can connect as a school community and share our love of reading! You can find the group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/stoneridgereading/ and if you are already in one of our grade level groups you should automatically be approved! This group is a "closed group" which means anyone can search for it, but only members can see posts. All members will also be approved by me. I look forward to hearing about what you're reading! Hey Stoneridge! What are you reading?
