October 27 #kindness #thankyou

Check out this video with fun pics from around Stoneridge!

'Tis the season to be thankful! One of my favorite things to do is make positive phone calls home for kids, and teachers use a positive office referral form to share with me the names of students to be recognized. I would love to celebrate our Stoneridge staff and teachers, too! If you have a staff member or teacher you would like to thank and recognize, please send me an email or complete the form below and I will visit the staff member and share your kind words. Thank you for helping us spread kindness at our school!

Family Conferences are coming up in November. Please click the link below to read the directions for scheduling online. Our teachers look forward to sharing your child's progress with you!

October 20, 2017 #safetyfirst

Happy Friday Stoneridge Families!

I hope you have had a great week and are enjoying this cool fall weather-- even some rain! I wanted to say thank you to all of the parents who contacted me regarding safety and unsafe drivers this week. I was out by the birthday sign the last two mornings and learned a lot. We will continue to focus on having a safe zone for kids during drop off and pickup. A few reminders and things I noticed while out on Alexandra this week:

  1. We are still having a few parents make illegal u-turns on Alexandra in front of the birthday sign. I did stop and talk to a few parents and reminded them that it is not only illegal but also unsafe to make a u-turn in that area. One of the issues I saw was Stoneridge Elementary parents dropping off/parking in the white zone. The white zone is only for our Stoneridge Preschool families. You may not know that we have almost 100 preschoolers with special needs on our campus every day. Our Stoneridge parking lot moves quickly and has several drop off lanes for you. Please do not park or drop off TK-5th grade students in the white preschool loading zone or in the spots marked for preschool in our lot.
  2. Please be extra careful when walking or driving around our school. I have seen parents almost be hit in our crosswalks while texting or using a phone while walking.
  3. Is it safe? Is it illegal? As you drive consider these tow questions. It will keep our kids safe!
  4. EVERYONE on our campus is a teacher. Kids are learning by watching YOU. Are you modeling excellent behavior? Every thing we do and word we say is noticed by our kids. Let's work together and set a great example with our words and actions.
  5. Are you passionate about safety? Would you like to help out in the morning or afternoon at the crosswalk or around the school? We are looking for volunteers to help out in the mornings. Please click here if you are interested. Safety Team Parent Volunteers
Thank you so much for your support and cooperation. Have a wonderful weekend!

Sami's Circuit was a BIG Hit! Here are a few pictures from that day. We have a family night coming up on November 2nd! Click here to view the flyer.

October 13, 2017 #newafterschoolenrichment #parkinglot

Happy Friday Stoneridge Families! It's been a busy week with picture day, Talent Show tryouts, field trips for 5th grade, and more. And it finally feels like fall-- it's cool out there! As October flies by, we are excited to share our next round of enrichment classes that will be starting the week of October 23rd. We have made some adjustments to the days that a few classes are offered (Minecraft will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays) and have added a new Intro to Robotics class for Mondays that is open to grades 3-5. In addition to an updated list of offerings, I've tried to make what is being offered and the signup links clearer and easier for you to access. In the google doc linked below, you will find one table with ALL of our upcoming after school sessions, costs, the days and dates they are offered, and direct links to the signup pages. You will also find descriptions and links to flyers with more information.

After School Enrichment Information Oct-Dec 2017

An important note: signups for Minecraft and Lego classes opens this Monday October 16th at 8 PM at the Stoneridge Shop website. If you visit the site before 8 PM, you will not see the link. Keep refreshing your page once 8:00 hits. There is a BIG button for after school enrichment at the top. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Parking Lot Update
Overall, the parking lot seems to be going much better, cars and buses are moving smoothly, and people are mostly smiling. We have still had a few cars entering the parking lot going the wrong way -- please be sure to note the DO NOT ENTER signs and enter at the correct spot. This will help keep our kids safe. If you do notice an unsafe driver or happen to witness an incident out there, please let me know by emailing. It is most helpful if you can identify the car or the parent(s) to me. I definitely want to follow up with individuals in these matters, so thank you for letting me know.

On a related note, I have had a few parents stop me to talk on my way put to parking lot duty and I just wanted to let you know that at that time I am not able to have a conversation as I need to get to my spot :) But I DO want to speak with you! Please email me at jkloczko@rcsdk8.org to schedule a time to connect. If you can schedule a time with me no matter the topic, that works best. During the day I am out and about and in classrooms supporting teachers and kids or may be in a meeting  and am not always in my office. Thanks!

Jennifer Kloczko

October 6, 2017 #celebrate #progress #PEchallenge #RCA

It's hard to believe it's October already! Last Friday progress reports were sent home and this is a great time to celebrate your child's learning! We have been in school just about a month and it's amazing to see how much the students have already grown. It is our goal to make sure that every child grows from where ever they are, both socially and academically.

At Stoneridge, we are working hard to learn and grow as a staff as well. This past week I was lucky to spend two days at the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta with Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. De Cuir, and Mrs. Beck, following in the footsteps of the 6 teachers and Mr. Blom who visited last February.

What an amazing experience! We have been so inspired by the students and staff there-- and some of the things new to Stoneridge have been implemented after visiting, including our House System, house points for positive recognition, our 22 Stoneridge Essentials, and even our new SPARK assemblies. Congratulations to Mrs. Franco, Mrs. Roberts, Mrs. Pointer, Mrs. Oxenham, Mrs. Reidt, and Mrs. Robertson who presented these ideas and keynoted at The Education Conference with Mr. Blom-- extending the Stoneridge spirit out into the world!

We are so excited for the impact that these changes will have for our school, students, and learning, and they are still a work in progress as we learn as a staff how to roll out these ideas in our school. Something fun you may not be aware of is our Monday morning flag raising for the house winner of the week! Join us at 8:30 at the flag pole to see which house will have their flag raised! And don't forget that each Monday is house day-- students should wear house colors to show spirit!

Jog-a-thon

We had such a fun day with the kids jogging and are so excited that we had such a beautiful day! Your donations so far are just under $38,000 and we are accepting donations through 10/13! Mrs. Anderson's Class and Mrs. Roberston's classes are neck in neck for the top donations-- with Mrs. Anderson in the lead by just $100! First place gets a picnic lunch and popsicles with the principal, and second place gets an art lesson with the principal. Not only that, every class with 100% participation will earn $100 of supplies for their teacher. We appreciate your support and are looking forward to pumping up STEAM in our school! You can donate online at our Stoneridge Shop! http://www.stoneridgeshop.com/

Spanish Language Committee
Another area where we had a lot of interest on our parent survey was in having Spanish language available to students. We were unable to secure a teacher with the program we had been looking at, so we have decided to take some time to explore what we are really looking for in regards to foreign language at Stoneridge. Laurissa Freels will be heading up a committee to explore this topic and all parents are invited to attend. Please email Laurissa at mrs.freels@me.com if you are interested. We would like to explore both during school and after school options.
