Get ready! February is shaping up to be a busy month! This post has all of the usual ongoing information at the bottom of the post, so I just wanted to share a few quick important items to be sure you don't miss out! And thanks to all who came out to Skate Night this week! That was our biggest skate night ever!

• Girls On the Run Signups open at 8 am Monday the 22nd!

• Our Erin Dealey author visit is February 9th, and her books will be available for sale soon in the Stoneridge shop. We are excited to be supporting a local bookstore, Face In A Book, in El Dorado Hills with our orders. Orders will be open through the 24th.

• Global School Play Day is February 7th-- check out the Google Form below to help!

• Casino Night tickets will be available in the Stoneridge Shop on Janaury 29th! Join us to support the arts at Stoneridge!

• Spirit Wear Sales: Orders close January 21st for this window to be delivered February 4th. Visit https://www.stoneridgeshop.com/spirit-wear-1 to order. We have online orders only at www.stoneridgeshop.com. Orders will be delivered the week of February 5th.

February 4, 2015, was the first annual Global School Play Day for students in schools around the world. In year one, over 65,000 students participated! Over 177,000 students took part in 2016. In 2017, over 283,000 kids celebrated Global School Play Day. Can we reach 500,000 students in 2018?

In his TEDx talk, Peter Gray clearly argues the case that today's kids do not grow up playing and this has negatively impacted them in many ways. It's time we return the gift of play to this generation.

How can you help?
CALL FOR TOYS Our students can bring anything they wish to play with to school on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. The only restrictions: they must bring toys and these toys may NOT require batteries or electricity. No devices. Kids may need some ideas, since today's kids rarely play and often own very few toys: board games, dolls, Legos, blocks, trucks, cars, racetracks, playing cards, empty cardboard boxes, markers, jigsaw puzzles, blankets (for forts), social games (charades, Pictionary, etc.) The only exception on the electronics rule would be a board game that has an electronic timer, an electronics play kit, or similar. How about taking your students out in the dirt or snow to dig, explore and get messy? You may want to show your kids photos of GSPD17 to open their eyes to unfamiliar types of unstructured play.

Want to get involved?

We will also have activities for outside play throughout the day and we would love for you to join us in play! We will definitely need volunteers to help with setting up and clean up as well. Do you have juggling scarves? Legos? Board games? Agility ladders? Jacks? We would love to borrow items like these for our outside play stations that day. For families new to Stoneridge, we have several spirit days to participate in. Every Friday is Stoneridge spirit day and you can wear spirit wear or school colors! Every Monday is House Day and students wear their house colors.
