October 6, 2017 #celebrate #progress #PEchallenge #RCA

It's hard to believe it's October already! Last Friday progress reports were sent home and this is a great time to celebrate your child's learning! We have been in school just about a month and it's amazing to see how much the students have already grown. It is our goal to make sure that every child grows from where ever they are, both socially and academically.

At Stoneridge, we are working hard to learn and grow as a staff as well. This past week I was lucky to spend two days at the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta with Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. De Cuir, and Mrs. Beck, following in the footsteps of the 6 teachers and Mr. Blom who visited last February.

What an amazing experience! We have been so inspired by the students and staff there-- and some of the things new to Stoneridge have been implemented after visiting, including our House System, house points for positive recognition, our 22 Stoneridge Essentials, and even our new SPARK assemblies. Congratulations to Mrs. Franco, Mrs. Roberts, Mrs. Pointer, Mrs. Oxenham, Mrs. Reidt, and Mrs. Robertson who presented these ideas and keynoted at The Education Conference with Mr. Blom-- extending the Stoneridge spirit out into the world!

We are so excited for the impact that these changes will have for our school, students, and learning, and they are still a work in progress as we learn as a staff how to roll out these ideas in our school. Something fun you may not be aware of is our Monday morning flag raising for the house winner of the week! Join us at 8:30 at the flag pole to see which house will have their flag raised! And don't forget that each Monday is house day-- students should wear house colors to show spirit!

Jog-a-thon

We had such a fun day with the kids jogging and are so excited that we had such a beautiful day! Your donations so far are just under $38,000 and we are accepting donations through 10/13! Mrs. Anderson's Class and Mrs. Roberston's classes are neck in neck for the top donations-- with Mrs. Anderson in the lead by just $100! First place gets a picnic lunch and popsicles with the principal, and second place gets an art lesson with the principal. Not only that, every class with 100% participation will earn $100 of supplies for their teacher. We appreciate your support and are looking forward to pumping up STEAM in our school! You can donate online at our Stoneridge Shop! http://www.stoneridgeshop.com/

PE Challenge for October
PIt's not too late to join your child in the October PE challenge! Log sheets were sent home last week. Together you can log miles during the month of October to add up to the marathon distance (26.2 miles). It can be any aerobic activity...walk, bike, skate, hike, swim...even count the distances covered in any sports game. Approximate distances will be accepted...so add them up.

Completing the PE challenge will earn your child a 26.2 Mileage Club Charm and a chance to be in a drawing to win “PE” teacher for a morning or afternoon.
For more information go to the PE webpage and click on the tab “Challenges” for more details:

Student Leadership Corner
We are hosting a Coat Drive! Coming to you from October 2 - 20! Let's help our neighbors in Roseville. Local charities include Gathering Inn, WEAVE, Children's Receiving Home, Stand Up Placer and many others.

Please bring new and reusable coats of any size and put them in the barrels in the office as you come
to school, or give them to your Leadership Ambassador on Fridays.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Spanish Language Committee
Another area where we had a lot of interest on our parent survey was in having Spanish language available to students. We were unable to secure a teacher with the program we had been looking at, so we have decided to take some time to explore what we are really looking for in regards to foreign language at Stoneridge. Laurissa Freels will be heading up a committee to explore this topic and all parents are invited to attend. Please email Laurissa at mrs.freels@me.com if you are interested. We would like to explore both during school and after school options.
